Children releasing balloons during a service

A Church of Scotland congregation located at the end of Dumbarton’s High Street, on the junction of Castle Street and Church Street, Riverside Parish Church is at the centre of the town.  In addition to the main sanctuary building Riverside boasts an impressive suite of modern halls, meeting rooms and kitchens which draw a wide variety of people, young and old, every day of the week, extending our christian fellowship well beyond worship on Sunday mornings.

Minister

Rev Ian Johnson was inducted as minister of Dumbarton: Riverside on 27th February 2014 following the deferred linkage with Dumbarton: West Kirk.

Development Worker

Marie Clare Dungavell joined us in Summer 2015 as the new Development Worker for the Linkage, focusing on youth engagement.

Linkage

The formal Service of Linkage between Dumbarton: Riverside and Dumbarton: The West Kirk, and Ian Johnson’s Introduction as Minister at The West Kirk, took place on Tuesday 26th August 2014 in The West Kirk.

Baptisms

We generally conduct baptisms on a monthly basis. It is preferable that parents bringing their children for baptism are church members, or come to church on a regular basis. If you are not a member or willing to come to church with your children, then perhaps a blessing of your child might be more appropriate for your family. The church office will ensure that your details are passed on to the minister and they will be happy to talk this through with you.

Weddings

Riverside is happy to consider requests for weddings. Please contact the church office and they will pass your details onto the minister. While there is no wedding fee, Riverside now has to pass on the costs for the services for the organist and church officer on the day, along with a charge for heating and lighting. There is a discount for members, and full details can be given by the Church office.

Bereavement

Riverside is eager to ensure that there is pastoral care at such times for both its members and for those who live in the parish area. This means that we can undertake to arrange the conduct of funerals for those within our parish area, or those who are on the membership role. For those who live beyond the boundary of the parish, we would ask that an initial approach is made to their local parish minister. Please note that we are not always able to meet requests for specific times on specific days, and would ask families to ask the Undertaker to consult with the minister before the final arrangements for a service is made. In the event of a family bereavement we are sure that you will find the local undertakers most helpful.

I was wondering if I could trace some relatives from Dunbarton My Great Grandfather worked in a shipyard in the Clydevalley possibly 1880s? His name could have been James Neville or Robert Neville.
    Thanking you in anticipation
