Dumbarton Churches Together – Response to Covid-19 Pandemic

Dumbarton Churches Together have met and agreed a coordinated response to the Coronavirus, and have set in place a volunteer project to help meet needs at this time. Please consider the following if you wish to get involved in giving or receiving support:

1. There is a Dumbarton Churches Together website at https://dumbartonchurchestogether.com This contains information about what we can offer and very short online forms to fill in for giving or receiving help. This is focused on practical errands and phone befriending.

2. We have an email address for contact on dumbartonct@gmail.com

3. If people cannot use the internet, there is a phone number to call on 01389 600245. We will also send out flyers and posters that can be printed out for volunteers to use, and these digital files can be sent out for everyone to use while following the government advice on staying safe. Printed versions can be put through the letter boxes of residents who are unlikely to use email. (these info cards and posters will be sent out next week when completed.)

4. We have prepared some volunteer guidelines and a letter to church leaders with more information.

There have been a number of meetings with different churches involved but the volunteer co-ordinators will be Maureen Burke from the Church of Scotland Linkage and Heather Thorp from Rock Community Church.

Role Descriptions and Guidelines for Community Support During Coronavirus

Practical Support Volunteer

The Practical Support Volunteer will be able to run errands such as shopping, prescriptions and posting mail. You love to see a need met in an active way and have some time to give back to those in your local community. Ideally you will have your own transport and will work in a pairing with another volunteer.

Befriending Support Volunteer

The Befriending Support Volunteer will be responsible for phoning those who are unable to leave their homes, to reduce social isolation. You love to make sure others are coping in difficult times and  provide friendly conversation. All calls will be made by withholding your number so that you are in charge of the amount of contact you have. Guidelines for what to say will be provided.

Guidelines and Code of Conduct have been prepared.
